Writers invited to participate in an innovative multidisciplinary event
Artists and writers will come together during the Rainforest Arts Convergence: Images + Words show, which opens January 14 and runs until the end of March, 2025. Each Rainforest member-artist will submit one work for the exhibit. They can choose any size, genre, medium, style, or subject. The art will be photographed and displayed on the RainforestArts.ca/images-plus-words web page.
After the show is hung, participating writers will be invited to a January 16 ‘wine & cheese’ preview gathering, where they will be ‘randomly paired’ with artworks and asked to submit responsive poems or prose inspired by the art. They are also welcome to join in the Convergence initiative online after the preview gathering.
As they are written, the submitted compositions will be displayed in the gallery beside the artworks. Art cards will also be produced with the art printed on the cover and the literary compositions inside. The Convergence artists and authors will receive five complimentary art cards each. The pieces will be uploaded to the RainforestArts.ca/images-plus-words webpage as they are produced.
Funding for this initiative is provided by the Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society. The show will run until the end of March.
