Russell was born and raised on Vancouver Island and studied pottery in high school. Over the years he has studied different techniques and learned from a variety of potters to enhance his personal style. He is influenced by Japanese Culture and their pottery creations and is involved in the Tozan Kiln Society.

Recently retired from forestry, Russel opened his home studio in Sunny Saltair.
